Before WordPress changed the reader and several of the admin pages, I used to view stats and navigate back to my dashboard using the menu as shown below:
Now, since the update, this particular page, with its handy menu, doesn’t appear on most of my WP pages. It only shows up in a few areas. They’ve taken it away from most of my pages. It’s still on my main blog page, but its not in my dashboard page, or my stats page, meaning that I have no easy way to return to my dashboard. But wait, actually there is. I wasn’t paying attention, but there’s a little WordPress W right next to the blog selection drop-down menu of the stats page.
Click this little icon, and you go straight back to your dashboard. How convenient! I should really pay closer attention to this stuff when I’m using WordPress, but a lot of times I just pop in, post something, check for new posts from other bloggers, and depart. Why go to the dashboard at all? Because that’s where I can open the “Comments I’ve Made” page. Why would I go to that page? Because while I do receive notification of replies to my comments, I can’t view the comments other people have made on a specific topic unless I either go to the blog, or use “Comments I’ve Made.” I like to view “Comments I’ve Made” to see if there’s a reason to return, and it’s easy to return to those blogs from the links on that page. I use “Comment’s I’ve Made” quite frequently, and wish it was available from other menus.
Maybe this feature has been there all along?

I do so much behind the scenes on my blog that I’ve put bookmarks on my browser bar for my home page, my CSS editing page, and the page that lists all my posts (with my theme I have to change posts from Aside to Standard and from Sticky to non-Sticky to get them off the home page). I also have a bookmark to a “test post” where I can use the tool bar to properly code/test a link or something else for a comment, and then copy/paste it. I really, really wish WP would include an editing tool bar with the comment entry form.
I like the “Comments I Have Made” page too. I like to watch for replies to my comments, but I don’t want to sign up to “follow comments” on any blog because I could be buried in email for weeks. Like you, I don’t go to the Dashboard very often. I didn’t know the little icon did anything. Thanks for the tip.
An editing toolbar for the comments would be awesome. I’m completely with you. It could even be collapsible so the user doesn’t see it unless they want to. I usually don’t bother putting html in comments that I can’t edit. I know if I make a mistake, I can’t change it, and it’s too much effort for me to test post it, so unless I REALLY feel the need, I’m not even going to use emphasis. But a toolbar – that I would use. Then I could put some english on my English, if you know what I mean.
